Not every leak is obvious. A burst pipe flooding your kitchen is easy to spot. But the leaks that do the most damage are the ones you cannot see — water slowly seeping behind walls, under floors, through concrete slabs, or from buried pipes in the garden. By the time you notice, the damage is done.
We find hidden leaks using a combination of experience, pressure testing, and targeted investigation. Once we find the source, we fix it on the spot. No sending you to another tradesman — we diagnose and repair in the same visit wherever possible.
If your water bill has jumped, you have a damp patch that will not dry, or you can hear water running when nothing is on — call us. The sooner a leak is found, the less damage it causes.
Unexplained water bill increase — your usage has jumped but nothing has changed. This is the number one sign of a hidden leak.
Damp patches on walls or ceilings — moisture appearing where it should not be. Often worse after rain or when hot water is running.
Sound of running water — you can hear water flowing when all taps and appliances are off.
Musty smell or mould — persistent dampness behind walls creates mould growth you can smell before you see it.
Drop in water pressure — a leak in the supply line reduces pressure to the rest of the house.
Wet patches in the garden — a soggy area in the lawn or path that never dries, even in summer.
Leak detection is part science, part experience. Here is how we approach it:
Most leaks are found and fixed in a single visit. For complex underground or slab leaks, we may recommend rerouting the pipe above ground rather than digging up concrete — it is often faster, cheaper, and avoids the same problem recurring.
The most common sign is an unexplained jump in your water bill. Other signs include damp patches on walls or ceilings, the sound of running water when nothing is on, musty smells, or a wet area in the garden that never dries. If you suspect a leak, turn off everything in the house and check your water meter — if it is still moving, you have a leak.
We charge a fixed callout fee to attend, investigate, and locate the leak. The repair cost depends on what we find — a simple joint repair is different to rerouting an underground pipe. We will always tell you the cost before we start any repair work.
In most cases, yes. We carry common parts and fittings on the van. For simple pipe repairs, joint fixes, and valve replacements, we repair on the spot. For more involved work like slab reroutes, we will quote and schedule it.
That is exactly what we do. Hidden leaks behind walls, under floors, or underground are invisible until someone investigates. We pressure test, check the meter, and systematically narrow down the source. Most of the time we find it in one visit.
If you can see water flowing or a damp patch is growing, yes — turn off your mains toby valve at the street boundary. This stops the water supply while you wait for us. If you are not sure where it is, call us and we will talk you through it.
