About the Rheem Mains Pressure 180L

The Rheem Mains Pressure 180L's galvanised steel jacket is designed for installation inside a hot water cupboard, laundry, or garage — anywhere sheltered from the weather. At 177 litres actual capacity and 3.0 kW, it delivers a recovery rate of 51 litres per hour at a 50°C rise, which comfortably serves a household of two to three people in Auckland's moderate climate.

Vitreous enamel lining and a sacrificial magnesium anode protect against corrosion from the inside, while Solstice Green insulation keeps standing heat losses low and reduces power consumption. Rheem manufactures these cylinders in New Zealand, which means local warranty support and readily available spare parts. The 10-year cylinder replacement warranty reflects the durability Rheem builds into these units — in practice, with a healthy anode, they regularly outlast the warranty period.

We install Rheem Mains Pressure cylinders across Auckland — from North Shore and West Auckland to Howick, Manukau, and everywhere between. A like-for-like replacement takes three to four hours. We handle disconnection and removal of the old unit, fit the new valve pack and safe tray, connect plumbing and electrics, install seismic restraints, and register the warranty before we leave.

What was a very stressful time for me when my under the bench hot water cylinder leaked at the beginning of the Easter weekend was made so much easier when I contacted Water and Gas Worx. They replaced the cylinder when they said they would and arrived on time. The plumber was very courteous, worked hard and efficiently, tidied up the mess and took away the rubbish.

Frequently Asked Questions — Rheem Mains Pressure 180L

What is the Rheem Mains Pressure 180L installed price in Auckland?
The Rheem Mains Pressure 180L is $3,499 incl GST fully installed. This includes the unit, removal and disposal of the old cylinder, mains pressure valve pack, safe tray, seismic restraints, electrical reconnection, and warranty registration.
Is the Rheem Mains Pressure 180L an indoor or outdoor cylinder?
The Rheem Mains Pressure VE is an indoor-only cylinder with a galvanised steel jacket. It is designed for installation inside a hot water cupboard, laundry, or garage. If you need an outdoor-rated unit, the Rheem Optima 180L has a weatherproof Colourbond jacket for external installation.
What is the difference between the Rheem Mains Pressure 180L and the Rheem Optima 180L?
Both are vitreous enamel mains pressure cylinders with a 3.0 kW element. The key difference is installation location: the Mains Pressure VE has a galvanised jacket for indoor use only, while the Optima has a Colourbond weatherproof jacket rated for indoor or outdoor installation. The Optima also carries a longer 12-year warranty versus 10 years for the standard Mains Pressure.
How long does a mains pressure cylinder replacement take?
Most like-for-like replacements are done in 3-4 hours. We disconnect the old cylinder, install the new one in the same position, fit the valve pack and safe tray, connect plumbing and electrical, and test everything before we leave.
What size mains pressure cylinder do I need?
The 180-litre Rheem suits 2-3 people in Auckland's moderate climate. For larger households of 3-5 people, a 300-litre cylinder or continuous flow system may be more suitable. We can advise based on your household size and hot water usage.
Can I upgrade from low pressure to mains pressure?
Yes. Upgrading from low pressure to mains pressure gives you full water pressure at every tap. It costs more because additional valves and pipework are needed, but many homeowners find the improvement worthwhile. We handle the full upgrade including any pipe modifications.
What warranty does the Rheem Mains Pressure 180L have?
Rheem provides a 10-year cylinder replacement warranty, 5-year labour warranty, and 1-year parts warranty for domestic installations. We register the warranty with Rheem NZ on the day of installation.
