Gas Hob Installation in Mission Bay

Whether you're near Tamaki Drive, Atkin Avenue, Marau Crescent, Tagalad Road, or around Mission Bay Beach, Selwyn Reserve, Trevor Moss Davis fountain — we come to you in Mission Bay with everything needed to get your gas hob connected and certified.

Character homes and villas often don't have existing gas lines to the kitchen. Adding a gas hob means running a new gas line from the meter — through the subfloor or along the exterior — and bringing it up to the cooktop location. It's more involved than a straight swap, but we do it all the time in older Auckland homes.

We also cover nearby Kohimarama, St Heliers, Orakei, Remuera.

What's Involved

1

Assess the job — we check your existing gas supply, the hob location, and what's needed. New gas line or existing connection? Natural gas or LPG? We figure it out.

2

Run the gas line — if there's no existing gas to the kitchen, we install a new gas line from the meter to the cooktop location. Copper or stainless, properly supported and protected.

3

Connect the hob — we connect the gas hob to the supply, install the correct bayonet or rigid connection, and ensure the hob is level and seated properly in the benchtop.

4

Pressure test — we test the entire gas line for leaks at the required pressure. No leaks, no compromise.

5

Commission and certify — we fire up each burner, check flame pattern and ignition, adjust if needed, and issue a Gas Safety Certificate (GSC). This is required by law for every gas installation.

New Installation vs Replacement

Replacing an Existing Gas Hob

If you're swapping an old gas hob for a new one and the gas connection is already there, this is a straightforward job. We disconnect the old hob, connect the new one, test, and certify. Usually done within an hour or two.

First-Time Gas Hob Installation

If your kitchen currently has an electric cooktop and you want to switch to gas, we need to run a new gas line. This involves:

If you don't have gas to the property at all, we can arrange an LPG bottle setup — two 45kg bottles with an automatic changeover valve.

LPG vs Natural Gas

Some areas of Auckland have natural gas (piped from the street). Others need LPG bottles. Most gas hobs come in both variants, or can be converted with a jet change. We'll advise which applies to your Mission Bay property and make sure the hob is set up for the right gas type.

Popular Gas Hob Brands

We install all brands. These are the most popular ones we see in Auckland kitchens:

Fisher and Paykel

Kiwi brand, widely available. 60cm and 90cm models. Good parts availability.

Bosch

Premium European quality. Popular in renovations. Excellent burner performance.

Smeg

Italian design, popular in high-end kitchens. 70cm and 90cm options.

Westinghouse

Reliable mid-range option. Common in new builds and rental properties.

Gas Compliance Certificate

Every gas hob installation in New Zealand must be done by a certified gasfitter and a Gas Safety Certificate (GSC) must be issued. This is a legal requirement under the Gas Act.

The GSC confirms the installation has been tested, is safe, and complies with NZ standards. You'll need this certificate if you ever sell your home, for insurance purposes, and for your own safety records.

We issue the GSC as part of every gas hob installation — it's included, not an extra.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does gas hob installation cost in Mission Bay?

A straight hob swap on an existing gas connection is the most affordable option. A new gas line installation costs more depending on the distance from the meter to the kitchen. We'll give you a clear price before starting — no surprises.

Can I install a gas hob myself?

No. Gas work must be done by a certified gasfitter in New Zealand. It's illegal and dangerous to do your own gas connections. We handle everything and issue the required certification.

How long does installation take?

A hob swap takes 1-2 hours. A new gas line run plus hob install is typically half a day, depending on the route and distance.

Do you supply the gas hob or do I buy it?

Either way works. You can buy your own hob and we'll install it, or we can supply and install. If you're buying your own, just make sure it matches your gas type (natural gas or LPG).

Can you convert my hob from LPG to natural gas?

Yes — most hobs can be converted by changing the gas jets. We carry common jet sizes and can usually do the conversion during the same visit.
