Here's what a typical gas hob installation looks like:
If you're replacing an existing gas hob, the job is usually straightforward. The gas pipe is already there — we disconnect the old unit, connect the new one, test everything, and issue the certificate. Most replacements are done in under two hours.
A new gas hob installation takes more work. If there's no gas pipe to the cooktop location, we need to run one. If you're converting from electric to gas, we'll need to check your gas supply capacity and possibly upgrade the regulator. If there's no gas connection to the property at all, you'll need to talk to your gas retailer first — we handle everything from the meter onwards.
Switching from electric to gas? We work alongside kitchen installers and builders to get the gas pipe run done at the right stage of the build. The benchtop cutout dimensions are different for gas hobs, so it pays to sort the gas side early in the planning.
Auckland has both natural gas (mains/reticulated) and LPG (bottled) properties. The hob setup is different for each:
Not sure which gas type you have? We'll check when we come out. It's written on your gas meter or bottle setup.
We install all major gas hob brands sold in New Zealand. We've fitted plenty of each and know the quirks:
Already bought your hob? We'll install it. Still deciding? We can advise on what works best for your gas setup and kitchen layout.
If your gas hob is part of a kitchen renovation or new build, timing matters. We coordinate with your kitchen company or builder to get the gas rough-in done before the benchtop goes on. That means no cutting into finished benchtops and no delays waiting for the gasfitter.
We do this regularly — whether it's a single hob install in an existing kitchen or a full fit-out with gas hob, gas oven, and rangehood ducting. One call sorts the gas side.
Every gas hob installation we do comes with a gas compliance certificate. It's not optional — it's the law. Under New Zealand's Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations, all gas work must be certified by the gasfitter who did it.
You'll get either a Gasfitting Safety Certificate (GSC) for straightforward installations, or a Certificate of Compliance (COC) for more complex work. Both confirm the installation meets NZ standards and is safe to use.
This matters for insurance, for selling your home, and for your own safety. If someone installed a gas hob without a certificate, you've got uncertified gas work — and that's a liability.
Yes. Gas hob installation is prescribed gas work under NZ law. It must be done by a registered, certified gasfitter. DIY gas work is illegal and dangerous — and your insurance won't cover damage from uncertified gas installations.
A straight replacement where the gas pipe is already there takes 1-2 hours. A new install with a gas pipe run takes half a day to a full day, depending on the length of the run and access.
Yes, as long as your property has a gas supply (mains or LPG). We run a new gas pipe to the cooktop location, fit the hob, and certify it. You'll need the benchtop cutout adjusted to suit the gas hob dimensions — your kitchen installer or benchtop company handles that part.
The burner jets (injectors) are different sizes because LPG runs at higher pressure than natural gas. Most hobs come set for natural gas with an LPG conversion kit included. We fit the correct injectors for your gas type as part of the installation.
Every time. A gas compliance certificate is issued for every gas hob installation we do. It's a legal requirement and your proof the work meets NZ safety standards.
