Auckland's town supply water is treated and generally safe to drink, but that does not mean it is always as clean as you would like. Chlorine taste, sediment, and occasional discolouration are common complaints. And if you are on tank water or bore water — whether out in the Waitakere Ranges, rural South Auckland, or parts of the Hibiscus Coast — filtration is not optional. It is essential.

Whole-House Water Filtration

A whole-house filtration system treats all the water coming into your property — every tap, every shower, every appliance. It is installed on the main supply line after the meter (or after the pump on tank supply), so everything downstream gets filtered water.

A typical whole-house system includes:

• Sediment pre-filter: Catches dirt, rust, sand, and other particles. This protects the finer filters downstream and extends their life. Usually a 20-micron or 5-micron cartridge depending on your water quality.
• Carbon filter: Removes chlorine, chloramines, and organic compounds that cause taste and odour issues. If your Auckland tap water has that swimming pool smell, a carbon filter sorts it out.
• Optional specialty filters: Depending on your water test results, you might need filters for iron, manganese, or other specific contaminants. We test your water first and recommend accordingly.

The filters are housed in standard cartridge housings that are easy to access for replacement. We set everything up so you can change cartridges yourself, or we can include filter changes as part of a maintenance plan.

UV Sterilisation Systems

UV sterilisation is the gold standard for killing bacteria, viruses, and protozoa in water — including giardia and cryptosporidium, which are resistant to chlorine. A UV system uses ultraviolet light to destroy the DNA of microorganisms, rendering them harmless. No chemicals, no taste change, no waste.

UV sterilisation is essential if you are on:

• Rainwater tank supply: Bird droppings, leaf litter, and dead insects on your roof all wash into your tank. Even with a good first-flush diverter and leaf screens, bacteria can build up over time.
• Bore water: Groundwater can be contaminated by agricultural runoff, septic systems, or naturally occurring organisms. A UV system provides a reliable kill step.
• Spring or stream supply: Any surface water source should be treated with UV as a minimum.

We install UV units from trusted brands, sized to match your flow rate. The UV lamp needs replacing annually, and we can set up a reminder so it does not get forgotten.

Tank Water Treatment

If your Auckland property relies on rainwater tanks, getting the treatment right is important. A properly set up tank water system includes:

• First-flush diverter: Diverts the initial dirty water from your roof (the first 20-40 litres after rain) away from the tank.
• Leaf and insect screens: Fitted to all gutters and tank inlets to keep debris out.
• Sediment filtration: A 5-micron sediment filter to catch fine particles that make it past the screens.
• Carbon filtration: Removes taste, odour, and dissolved organic compounds.
• UV sterilisation: The final step — kills any remaining bacteria or parasites before the water reaches your taps.

We can set up the full treatment train from tank to tap, or upgrade individual components if you already have a partial system in place.

Under-Sink and Point-of-Use Filters

If you are on town supply and just want better-tasting drinking water, an under-sink filter is a cost-effective option. These fit neatly under your kitchen sink and filter only the water coming to your drinking tap. We install twin-cartridge systems with sediment and carbon stages — simple, effective, and the cartridges are easy to swap out every six to twelve months.
