Kitchen Plumbing for Renovations

Kitchen renovations are where plumbing and gas work intersect. You've got water supply, waste drainage, gas lines, and appliance connections all crammed into one space — and it all needs to work properly before the kitchen company installs a single cabinet.

Water & Gas Worx handles the full plumbing and gas scope on kitchen renovations across Auckland. We work with kitchen companies, builders, and homeowners to get the pipework done on time and to code.

Sink Relocation

Moving the sink is one of the most common changes in a kitchen reno. New layout means new pipe positions — hot water, cold water, and waste all need to be relocated. We run new supply lines and waste pipes to your new sink position, making sure the waste has the right fall and the supply pressures are balanced.

If you're going from a single bowl to a double bowl, or adding a prep sink on an island bench, we set up the plumbing to suit. Island sinks need careful drainage planning — there's no wall to run the waste up, so we use an air admittance valve or run the vent pipe through the floor.

Dishwasher Connections

Every dishwasher needs a hot water supply, a cold water supply (on some models), a waste connection, and power. We install dedicated dishwasher taps under the bench, connect the waste hose with the correct high loop to prevent backflow, and make sure everything is accessible for future servicing.

If you're adding a dishwasher where there wasn't one before, we run new supply and waste lines from the nearest point — usually the sink stack.

Gas Hob Installation

Gas hobs need a certified gasfitter for installation — it's not optional. We run gas pipe to the hob location, connect the appliance, test for leaks, and issue a Gas Safety Certificate (GSC). If you're switching from electric to gas, we install the gas line from your meter or manifold to the cooktop position.

We install all major brands — Fisher & Paykel, Bosch, Smeg, Westinghouse, and more. If your kitchen company supplies the hob, we'll connect it. If you need advice on what to buy, we can point you in the right direction.

Waste Disposal Units

InSinkErator and similar waste disposal units are a popular add-on in kitchen renovations. We install the unit under your sink, connect it to the waste line, and make sure it drains properly. If your existing waste pipe is too small or in the wrong position, we modify it to suit.

Water Filtration

Under-bench water filtration is a common request during kitchen renovations — and it's the easiest time to install one, since the benchtop is being replaced anyway. We install dedicated filtration taps, connect the filter unit under the bench, and run a separate supply line so your filtered water doesn't mix with the main supply.

Hot Water Considerations

A kitchen reno is a good time to check whether your hot water system can handle the new setup. If you're adding a dishwasher, moving the sink further from the cylinder, or upgrading to a larger home, your existing hot water might not cut it. We assess your system and recommend upgrades if needed — whether that's a larger cylinder, a gas califont, or a recirculation loop to reduce wait times.

Working With Kitchen Companies and Builders

We coordinate with your kitchen company and builder so the plumbing is done at the right stage. Typically we do the rough-in after the old kitchen is stripped out and before new flooring or cabinets go in. Then we come back for fit-off once the benchtop and sink are installed.

We've worked with most of the Auckland kitchen companies and know their install process. No delays from our end — we show up when we're needed and get it done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you move a kitchen sink to a different wall?

Yes. We relocate the hot and cold supply lines and the waste pipe to your new sink position. The main consideration is getting the waste to drain with the right fall — we assess this during the site visit.

Do I need a gasfitter to install a gas hob?

Yes — it's a legal requirement in New Zealand. All gas work must be done by a certified gasfitter. We install the gas line, connect the hob, test for leaks, and issue a Gas Safety Certificate.

Can you put a sink in a kitchen island?

Yes, but it requires careful planning for drainage. Island sinks don't have a wall to run the vent pipe up, so we use an air admittance valve or route the vent through the floor. We sort this out during rough-in.

How long does kitchen plumbing take during a renovation?

Rough-in is usually a day. Fit-off (connecting sink, dishwasher, gas hob, filtration) is another half day to a day. We work around your kitchen company's install schedule.

Can you install a dishwasher where there wasn't one before?

Yes. We run new hot water supply, waste, and (if needed) cold water lines from the nearest point — usually the sink stack. It's straightforward in most kitchens.
