Plumbing & Hot Water

About the LP to Mains Pressure Conversion

A low pressure to mains pressure conversion replaces your old gravity-fed copper cylinder with a modern Rheem Mains Pressure 180L vitreous enamel cylinder. The result is full mains pressure hot water at every tap — stronger showers, faster-filling baths, and compatibility with modern tapware and mixer fittings that require mains pressure to operate properly.

The conversion includes more than just swapping the cylinder. We remove and dispose of the old low-pressure unit, install the new mains pressure cylinder with a full valve pack (pressure-limiting valve, expansion control valve, non-return valve, and tempering valve), fit a safe tray and seismic restraints, reconnect electrics with a new switch kit, and upgrade any pipework sections that are not rated for mains pressure. The whole job is typically done in a day.

This conversion is common across older Auckland suburbs — Howick, Pakuranga, Mt Eden, Grey Lynn, Birkenhead, and anywhere with homes built before 1990 that still run gravity-fed hot water systems. We install Auckland-wide and can usually book within the same week.

Why Upgrade to Mains Pressure?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a low pressure to mains pressure conversion?
It involves replacing your old low-pressure cylinder with a modern mains-pressure cylinder, plus upgrading the valves and pipework to handle full water pressure. The result is strong, consistent pressure at every hot tap in your home.
How long does a conversion take?
A full low-to-mains conversion typically takes a full day. It involves removing the old cylinder, installing the new mains-pressure unit, fitting new pressure valves, and upgrading any pipework that cannot handle mains pressure.
Is it worth upgrading from low pressure to mains pressure?
If you are frustrated with weak shower pressure or slow-filling baths, absolutely. Mains pressure gives you full water pressure at every tap. It also opens up your options for modern tapware and shower mixers that require mains pressure.
Do I need to upgrade my pipes as well?
Sometimes. Older low-pressure homes may have pipework that is not rated for mains pressure. We assess your plumbing during the job and upgrade any sections that need it. This is included in our quote.
