Installation, annual testing, and certification of backflow prevention devices across Auckland. Keep your property compliant.
Backflow happens when contaminated water flows backwards into the clean water supply. It is caused by a sudden drop in mains pressure — a burst water main, heavy fire service demand, or a nearby pipe failure. Without a backflow prevention device, chemicals, waste water, or other contaminants can be sucked back into the drinking water network.
Auckland Council requires testable backflow prevention devices on any property that poses a risk to the public water supply. This includes commercial premises, properties with irrigation systems, swimming pools with auto-fill, and buildings with chemical dosing or industrial processes.
The device must be installed by a qualified plumber and tested annually by an IQP (Independently Qualified Person). We handle both — installation and ongoing annual testing to keep you compliant.
Commercial premises — cafes, restaurants, workshops, salons, offices with kitchen facilities.
Industrial sites — factories, warehouses, car washes, laundries, food processing.
Properties with irrigation — automated garden irrigation connected to town supply requires backflow protection.
Swimming pools with auto-fill — any pool or spa with an automatic top-up valve connected to mains water.
Fire sprinkler systems — buildings with fire sprinkler connections to the public water main.
Council notice received — if Watercare or Auckland Council has written to you, you must install and test within the timeframe given.
Every testable backflow device in Auckland must be tested by an IQP once every 12 months. Here is how the process works:
If your property is commercial, has an irrigation system connected to town supply, has a swimming pool with auto-fill, or has any process that could contaminate the water supply, then yes. Auckland Council and Watercare require it. If you have received a letter from Watercare, you must comply within the timeframe given.
Every 12 months. This is a legal requirement under the Auckland Council bylaw. If you miss a test, Watercare may issue a notice and can ultimately disconnect your water supply.
Testing is a fixed-price service. The cost depends on the device type and access. We will quote you upfront before booking.
We diagnose the fault and repair it — usually a worn seal, check valve, or relief valve. Most repairs are done the same visit. We then re-test and certify. If the device is beyond repair, we replace it with a new approved unit.
Yes. We install RPZ valves, double check valves, and other council-approved devices. We size it to your water supply, install it to code, and provide all compliance documentation.
